I must say I was terrified to stay here after reading some reviews but the bad ones couldn’t be farther from the truth. PLEASE believe the negative reviews and DO NOT STAY HERE.… The manager treated us so poorly we left Salem on a terrible note. In short, this place wasn't worth the $350 per night. I told her I don't leave reviews on Expedia but I do on TripAdvisor and I'd certainly leave one now. I approached the manager afterwards and she again accused us of writing a negative review as if no one else was staying at the motel this weekend. When my mother tried to stand up for herself, but the manager wouldnt listen. When my mother went to check out, she screamed at my mom for writing a negative review about the Inn on Expedia (which we didn't do). The manager treated us, especially my mom with contempt & disrespect from the get-go. Please understand, I am not one of those customers who expects to be treated like a Queen, just with basic respect. The female manager/owner is CRAZY and rude. Neither of us slept well because of how bad the beds were. Here were the major CONS of the motel: - Beds, towels and pillows were stiff and old. Our time in Salem was great but it was slightly brought down by the awfulness of the Clipper Ship Inn, particularly due to the "manager".
My mother and I stayed her for 3 nights the weekend of October 24th from Boston to enjoy Halloween in Salem. THE NIGHT BEFORE, like what kind of system do you have that you don't notice overbooking until one night before? They were going to stay in our room that night since they didnt have a room and she wanted to charge them an extra $50!!! Like are you kidding me? Other staff was great!… She also called my family member staying the same weekend and canceled their room the night before for Saturday night. She slows down behind us and is driving behind us for a few before driving away, it was so bizarre. Once we started walking to town, she gets in her truck and starts going in the same direction we are walking. My family and I were standing in the parking lot making plans for the day and she comes out and counts the people in our group and asking us questions, it was so uncomfortable. She charged us an extra $80 for the person to stay. I had a third person stay in the room with us which was unplanned, the room was a suite, with two beds and pull out couch. Everything was an issue, and she wanted to charge us for every extra thing. The women at the front desk was extremely rude, not just on one occasion, but the whole weekend. The walk to all the shops, restaurants, tourist attractions, etc in Salem was just about a mile, so easy to walk to which was fantastic! Now, let me get to the negative aspect of the Clipper Inn. But let me start off by saying some things I did like about the Clipper Inn, the cleaning staff was amazing, super nice and accommodating.
